Our Sashiko Doyle jackets have proven to be the most popular and beloved products that we've offered in years. May we introduce an exclusive colorway made for our community on Styleforum.net. This rich blue tone is a more vibrant and slightly lighter shade than our dark indigo. It pairs brilliantly with the shirts, denim, chinos, and trousers that you already own.
The incredibly strong Japanese fabric is cut and sewn in Los Angeles, plunged into a reactive dye bath, and then beautifully aged with natural pumice stones.. both by machine and by hand. The result is a unbelievably comfortable piece of outerwear with an aged look like none other. It's ideal for cooler nights in Spring to Fall.. but soft enough to wear as a layering piece in the Winter months as well.
12oz 100% Cotton Japanese Sashiko Pique
Also known as our classic pure cotton Sashiko cloth is woven in Japan for use in martial arts uniforms. Known as Dogi (cloth of the way), this fabric has a thick pique weave with well-defined "rice gain" structure. This technique offers three benefits: it allows natural stretch and flexing with movement, it absorbs moisture and stays away from your skin and it gains exceptional tensile strength.. far above a comparable twill weave. Given the large texture of the weave, you can expect a particularly nice patina with wear.
Pumice Wash
Each Sashiko Doyle begins its journey as a stiff, neutral white garment. It's plunged into an organic reactive dye bath for about 48 hours.. allowing the pigment to entirely soak through its distinctive "rice grain" texture. After drying, its both machine tumbled and hand-abraded with natural pumice stones.. yielding a three-dimensional fading and ombre effect throughout the garment. The soft drape and comfort of this final product cannot be overstated.. it wears almost like a thick knit sweater! And given the exceptional strength of Sashiko, your garment will deliver years of faithful wear even after this intensive treatment.
The Doyle Jacket
The Doyle is our loving homage to the classic French work jacket. Two open patch pockets sit at the hip. They're doubled against the body, allowing your hands to use them both from the side and from the top. Hidden brass rivets and heavy stitched bar tacks sit at the corners to reinforce them against heavy use. A single exterior pocket and a long interior pocket sit on either sides of the chest. The sleeves close with a functional single cuff, and can be unbuttoned and pushed up your forearms. The rear is single vented and the soft top point collar cuts a rakish profile whether open or closed. The buttons are natural corozo nut, dyed a gorgeous brandy tone.
Measurements & Sizing
"Note: All measurements are shown in inches. For the Doyle jacket, "Chest" is measured from one seam under the armpit to the other. "Shoulder" is measured from one shoulder seam to the other, on the rear of the shirt. "Sleeve" is measured from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve. "Length" is measured from the base of the collar (where it attaches to the jacket body) to the bottom of the tail.
