The Sandow Chino is designed to be the absolute best-fitting pant for men with larger thighs. Epaulet co-owner Michael Kuhle designed this shape for himself, after failing to find any viable options on the market. If you're into such activities as weightlifting, crossfit, or bodybuilding, then this will give you a fit that's functional, comfortable, and flattering. We named this design the "Sandow" in homage to Eugen Sandow.. the "father of modern bodybuilding."
This idea of an "athletic" fit is pretty common, but it's often done with too much allowance in the upper legs, not enough of a rise, too large of a leg opening, and a flat seat. The resulting fit is sloppy and awkwardly oversized. The Sandow Chino is designed to fix that. After designing trousers for nearly a decade, we dialed in a precise mixture of a higher rise, articulated waist line, curved seat, and tapered leg. Our soft construction waist, reinforced seams, and premium fabric are also degrees of quality away from our competitors. And of course, each pair is made from start to finish in the United States.
This 8 oz. cotton canvas is a staple fabric in our Rivet Chino collection. It's an excellent year-round weight that's extremely comfortable from the very first wear. It can't be beat for day-to-day, season-to-season, year-to-year wear. Navy canvas is a fantastic, slightly genteel, alternative to indigo jeans.
The bottom is finished and a line of natural cotton herringbone taping runs down the outseam for a signature design detail when cuffed. A chain-stitched rear lap-seam ensures the hard-wearing seam durability of a jean while maintaining the subtle seaming of a trouser. A heavy-gauge brass zipper and blue oxford cotton pocket bags finish it off.
The sizing and shape of the Sandow Athletic Chino are true to size. These particular chinos have been pre-washed to remove shrinkage. Yo can expect them to stretch up to .5" in the waistband after a few wears. They will also give slightly in the thigh due to this fabric.
If you have larger-than-average thighs and find slim pants to be too tight, then buy your typical waist size. If your thighs are really large and slimmer pants are impossible to even put on, then you might consider sizing up one to get more room in the thigh and seat. The chinos could then be easily taken in at the waist by a tailor or dry cleaner if they fit in the legs, but are a bit too big at the belt line.
All measurements below are taken with the pants laid flat. Waist is measured across the top of the waistband while the front portion is laid over the back. Rise is measured from the intersection point of the crotch seams to the top of the front waistband. Inseam is measured from the same point at the crotch to the leg opening. Thigh is measured from the lowest point of the crotch across the leg.
