The Doyle is our loving homage to the classic French work jacket. Starting with the minimal and utilitarian shape of the original garment, we upgraded the fit, construction, and fabric to create a versatile piece that can be worn as an all-day smart casual garment.
This stunning jacket is crafted in 100% cotton 12oz Sashiko pique. This intricate fabric is woven in Japan and typically used for Kendo, Aikido, and Judo uniforms. It's both extremely strong and very comfortable. Each garment is dyed in a deep blue indigo organic reactive dye for a rich color tone. The garment will fade beautifully with normal wash and wear - gaining exceptional character due to the thick pique weave structure. It's very soft when worn, making it a great outerwear piece, an excellent alternative to a sportcoat, and a practical layering piece under a heavier coat.
Two open patch pockets sit at the hip. They're doubled against the body, allowing your hands to use them both from the side and from the top. Hidden brass rivets and heavy stitched bar tacks sit at the corners to reinforce them against heavy use. A single exterior pocket and a long interior pocket sit on either sides of the chest.
The sleeves close with a functional single cuff, and can be unbuttoned and pushed up your forearms. The rear is single vented and the soft top point collar cuts a rakish profile whether open or closed. The buttons are natural corozo nut, dyed a gorgeous brandy tone.
This Doyle matches brilliantly to chinos, denim, and trousers. It's easy to care for, effortless to wear, and unmatched in its ratio of quality to price.
12oz 100% Cotton Japanese Sashiko Pique
Also known as our classic pure cotton Sashiko cloth is woven in Japan for use in martial arts uniforms. Known as Dogi (cloth of the way), this fabric has a thick pique weave with well-defined "rice gain" structure. This technique offers three benefits: it allows natural stretch and flexing with movement, it absorbs moisture and stays away from your skin and it gains exceptional tensile strength.. far above a comparable twill weave.
Each Sashiko Doyle is made up in neutral off-white fabric and then dipped into a deep blue indigo reactive dye. The cloth readily absorbs the dye.. gaining a gorgeous and consistent tone and an extremely soft hand. Given the large texture of the weave, you can expect a particularly nice patina with wear. The dye will tend to fade more on the tops of the "rice grains.." yielding a totally unique appearance to each garment.
Made in Los Angeles
Each Doyle is made by a handful of skilled operators at our Downtown Los Angeles facility.
